    MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY (1)

S: Today we celebrate the life and dreams of Martin Luther King, Jr.
S: He was an African-American minister in Alabama.
S: At that time, black people were not treated fairly in much of the United
    States.
S: Martin Luther King led a movement for equality, what we call civil
    rights.

    Song 5

    There was a time
    There was a time
Blacks were oppressed for their color
    They would despair
    It was unfair
Why should one care about color?

    There was a time
    There was a time
One man stood up, he would change things
    He led the fight
    For civil rights
    Marching for equality.

Martin Luther King it’s your day today
It is now time to sing
Martin Luther King it’s your day today
    Martin Luther King.

    There was a time
    There was a time
One man stood up, he would change things
    He led the fight
    For civil rights
    Marching for equality.

Martin Luther King it’s your day today
It is now time to sing
Martin Luther King it’s your day today
    Martin Luther King.

    MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY (2)

S: In 1963, Martin Luther King led a March to Washington, D.C.
S: On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, he gave one of the most famous
    speeches in United States history.
S: He told all of America that he had a dream.

    Song 6

    CLASS:
He had a dream of civil rights
He had a dream that blacks and whites
Would one day live in peace and harmony.

He had a dream that we’d begin
To judge by character not skin
    That love would rule supreme
    He had a dream.

    He had a dream
    Build it strong
    Build it long
    He had a dream
    Build it strong
    Build it long
    He had a dream.

He had a dream for me and you
And though it hasn’t quite come true
We’re making progress ev’ry single day

He had a dream that we¹d begin
To judge by character not skin
    That love would rule supreme
    He had a dream.

    He had a dream
    Build it strong
    Build it long
    He had a dream
    Build it strong
    Build it long
    He had a dream.

    Song 7

    CLASS:
    I see red all morning
    Red all afternoon
I see red and pink and white
    Something’s coming soon.

    I see red all evening
    Not one blue or green
I see hearts and cards and stuff
    What could all this mean?

    All red
    All red
    What’s it trying to say?
    Ooh me!
    I see!
    It must be Valentine¹s Day!

    I see red all morning
    Red all afternoon
I see red and pink and white
    Something’s coming soon.
    Oh, something’s coming soon.
